Playing catch up...

*sigh*  I have been playing catch up all afternoon.  I have felt "a day late and dollar short" since like September.  Moving to a new place, having a baby and recovering from surgery, the holidays, and homeschooling...it's been crazy!  I haven't taken nearly enough pictures and I can't get motivated to edit the ones that I have taken.  There just isn't much time right now.  But I did just spend my afternoon posting a bunch of new blog posts to a least catch everything up to date.  So if you get bored in the next couple of days you can go back a few posts and catch up on some pictures :)

In other news...things are still pretty much the same here.  Owen is recovering well and Jack has adjusted right into the family like he's been here forever.  The last couple of nights he has decided he wants a 3am feeding which is no fun.  He was sleeping straight until 7am up until this week.  At first I thought it was a growth spurt, but last night when he woke a 3 he nursed for a couple seconds and passed out.  Just enough to help himself fall back asleep.  So I'm not looking forward to the next couple of nights when he discovers that mommy isn't going to give up the goods anymore.  Growth spurts I'm okay with, but all night buffet, I'm not.  But other then that...he is doing super.  He's very laid back and calm.  It's been a huge blessing to have such an easy going baby.  Owen on the other hand has been keeping me very busy.  His Birthday is next month, but he has hit the two's full force and a little early.  He is my first screamer.  Ella could throw a pretty good fit, but Owen has her beat hands down.  It's made life a little more difficult for me because I already "have my hands full" as I'm reminded by random people on a daily basis and then on top of it, Owen will absolutely loose it every time he doesn't get his way.  I'm so glad I have been through this before.  It's the only way I don't burst into tears myself lol.  I just have to keep reminding myself that this will pass, the hard work of correcting him is worth it.  I look at my sweet Ella who is an absolute joy and just steady the course.  I've been bringing my stroller along everywhere so that I have a place to buckle him in when I need a way to contain him during a fit.  I just have to get over the shrinking feeling of having all eyes on me while I discipline him.  Being a mom can be so hard sometimes.  Randy and I were just saying yesterday that we are seeing some change in him.  Still a long way to go, but the more he is learning to talk, the less frustrated he is getting.  The good news is that his funny, sweet, personality far outweighs his stubborn streak.  He can have me ready to pull my hair out and then melt my heart the next second.

School is going well for the big kids.  I feel like we are really starting to find our way (finally) with homeschooling.  I've really learned a lot this year about what works for us and what doesn't work.  It makes me look forward to making curriculum adjustments for next year.  In addition to our usual core subjects like Math, etc. we have been doing a unit study on American History.  We are really enjoying it and trying to take our time as we get through each weeks studies.  Some times we buz right through a week and other weeks we take our time and spend two weeks on them. It usually just depends on the lessons and how many of the suggested activities we want to tackle.  That's one of my favorite things about homeschooling is having the ability to take as much time or as little as we need.

This particular week we had a fun science project/craft.  I have to admit...I was actually dreading this one because lately there is just so much going on that the crafts can get overwhelming.  It's just more stuff to buy and gather and more prep then I have time for.  But Ella and Noah enjoy them so much and have been begging me to get back to doing them more often.  SO I made a list and had my hubby bring home the things we would need.  I'm so glad I didn't miss out on this fun.  It took us all of ten minutes to squish up some berries and mix in the vinegar and salt.  The kids then got to cut feathers to make their own quill pens and actually wrote letters with the home made ink.  They loved it and it was the perfect way to finish up our lessons on the Declaration on Independence.

Jack is officially past the three month mark.  I just can't believe it.  He is  such a blessing.  He is sleeping great (besides the random two night wake ups I mentioned earlier) and napping on a pretty good routine during the day.  He smiles and "talks" all the time.  He is just all around happy.  He is *so* close to rolling over from back to tummy.  He gets so close and then gets really ticked when he can't.  He hates tummy time and would much rather be under his play mat. He is a joy.  We all just adore him.

The next few pictures are just a couple random ones from a Birthday party we went to last week.  The kids were running around so fast that they were blurry in almost all of the others.

Another exciting thing from this past month is that we officially joined our Homeschool Group's Co-Op.  This means that once a week the kids get to take classes with other homeschool kids.  It's a lot of fun.  This semester Ella is taking a class called World Fest where she is learning about different countries.  She also has PE and some fun time in her Lego class.  Noah and Owen go to Five in a Row where they get to have story time, crafts, and snacks that all are themed by whatever stories we are reading that week.  They also have their own PE, too.  We look forward to it every week.  The kids (and mommy) look forward to seeing their friends!  These are a couple pics I snapped during our Valentines Party in Noah and Owen's class.

This last chunk of pictures is from a "President's Day Party" we had with friends.  We had some friends over and shared lessons about presidents.  My amazing friend even put together President's Day lap books for the older kids to make.  They had so much fun learning, playing, and decorating a red, white, and blue cake.

Welp...another post in the bag.  Thanks for reading my ramblings year after year.  I would say that I promise to post more often...but we all know how that goes...

Owen's Surgery

We did a lot of updating on Owen through social media, but I still wanted to post his surgery pictures here because we have documented all of his Urology stuff through our blog.  He was such a brave boy.  I can't believe how great he did.  We were really nervous going into this surgery because there were so many unknowns.  We all knew that it was getting down to the nitty gritty.  Either they could fix his kidney or they couldn't and would remove it.  The Doctor we have now in Oklahoma is so wonderful. He reassured us that he had no plans to try and show off with Owen.  We all agreed that Owen had been through enough and that if he wasn't really confident in a surgical fix then it was time to remove the kidney and move on.  He assured us he wouldn't try and be a hero. Either he could fix it or he couldn't.  Our first couple of updates from the OR were very uneventful.  They kept telling us that he was "still working" or "still looking around."  I began to prepare my heart for the call that the kidney was coming out.  When we got our last phone update the nurse told us that he had completed a repair and was getting Owen closed up.  We were thrilled!  I have to be honest though...even though my initial response was to be totally excited, it was immediately followed with a little knot in my stomach. I think I was really prepared for the fact that the kidney wouldn't be saved and when it was it just opened up a whole list of questions and fears.  It means more testing.  More waiting.  And if it doesn't work...then more surgery.  I know that's a really negative way to take it, but it was more of just my "mommy brain" thinking way ahead.  I just want to put this all behind Owen and move on.  Obviously, even though I have fears, my main feelings on his surgery are thankfulness and joy.  We want him to have two working kidneys and once our surgeon came out and explained what all he did, we have a lot of confidence that he has fixed the problem.  I will spare you my botched medical explanation since it's hard to describe all he had to do.  In a nutshell, he moved a blood vessel that was in the way and also reconstructed the ureter and moved it to a lower spot on the kidney where it could *hopefully* drain easier.  Now we will let Owen's body heal and have the stent removed next month.  Then six weeks after that we can begin running tests again to see that the kidney is draining and not filling back up again.  We have seen God working in Owen's life since before he was born.  So many Doctors have told us that his kidney should be in much worse condition then it is.  We know this is because of the hundreds of prayers that have been spoken for Owen since he was just a teeny 19 week unborn baby.  All of the love and support we have received is just amazing.  When I have moments of fear for Owen all I have to do is just look back on how faithful God has been to us and surrender Owen's future to the one who loves him so much more then I do.  I am constantly amazed at the amazing work God does through Owen.

All marked and ready to go.

My sweet boy post op.  This was about two hours after surgery once he was finally settled in his room.

It's hard to tell from this picture, but he has four small incisions.  Two at the top of his belly, one at his belly button, and one lower (right under the top edge of the blanket in this pic) in his diaper.  The red pokes on the left side of his tummy in this pic were from a nerve block the anesthesiologist placed to help with his post op pain.

Here's a random picture of Jack.  He is such a good baby.  The nurses kept forgetting he was in the room because he was just hanging out so quiet.  Sweet boy.
The first night Owen had a terrible blow out.  He didn't have a diaper on yet and we weren't anticipating poop quite so soon.  Especially not this much. It was bad.  We had the sweetest nurse who came in and helped me get him all clean.  The only nice thing about the blowout was that I finally got to hold him while they changed his bedding.  I always want to hold him so badly, but it's scary when you feel like your touch is hurting instead of helping.  Thankfully, we were able to get him comfy for a minute and he even attempted the sweetest little smile and Randy caught it in a picture!

It was amazing what a night of sleep did.  In the morning we tried to get him out of bed to help with the insane amount of gas in his tummy.  He was a little unsure about standing up, but once he did he was running in no time.  He wanted to stay in the playroom for the rest of the day!

He also LOVED the wagon.  We have the same one here, but apparently theirs was better.  Maybe because they were letting him ride in it inside.

We finally got the okay to leave from the Doctor after he peed on his own.  Well, that turned in to a long wait.  Lots of apple juice and two warm baths later...we finally could see a little ripple in the water.  The bath had finally worked!  We were all packed up and ready so as soon as we had confirmation on the pee we could go home.  We were so happy not to stay the second night.  It's so hard to get good rest at the hospital.

We are now a little over two and a half weeks post op and he is doing great!  His bottom two incisions are healing so nicely and the top two aren't far behind.  We are so happy with how well everything has gone.  Thanks for all of the love and support.  SO blessed and thankful for our friends.

January Park Day

I only had a few random pictures from January.  It was a busy month recovering from the holidays and getting back into a routine for school.  One thing we are really loving about Oklahoma is the weather.  It reminds me a lot of the way Winter was in North Carolina.  It's very random and unpredictable.  One week you can have highs in the 30's and the next week it may be sunny and 60 degrees.  We have even had some temps in the low to mid 70s this Winter.  It's so refreshing to have a break from the cold and to get outside some.  These pictures are from a warm Winter day that we spent at the park.  The kids brought along their bikes and we walked/rode around the trail a couple times and then hit the playground for awhile.  It was a great day!  Park trips are still a little stressful for me on my own because I never know how Owen is going to do and it can be tricky with Jack in tow.  But the more we are getting out, the better we are doing.  Ella and Noah are also such great helpers. These warm days are giving us practice for this Spring and Summer.  There are several parks around town that I'm sure we will enjoy.

Christmas 2014

We had such a special Christmas this year.  There is something about having a new baby in the house that just makes the Christmas story come alive.  It was definitely different being in a new place.  We didn't have a schedule filled with parties and events like we have in past holidays.  But the change of pace was a welcomed calm.  We enjoyed reading "Unwrapping the Greatest Gift" with the kids each night before bed and having great conversations about the Bible and Jesus' birth.  Our church had three Christmas services that kept Randy busy the weekend leading up to Christmas.  We really enjoyed celebrating Christmas with our new church.  Christmas Eve we went to a Lifechurch service in Broken Arrow and took the kids to see Christmas lights.  It was great family time.  On Christmas morning my mom came over and we unwrapped gifts and cooked a yummy lunch.  Lots of special times and memories for our first Christmas in Oklahoma and our first Christmas with Jack.
